Fresno (miniseries)

Fresno is a 1986 television comedy miniseries that parodied popular prime time soap operas of the day such as Falcon Crest, Dallas, and Dynasty. The series featured high production values, including lavish haute couture gowns by leading costume designer Bob Mackie, a stellar cast of American comedy greats, including Carol Burnett, Teri Garr, Charles Grodin and Dabney Coleman, and a strong supporting cast of character actors including Charles Keating, Pat Corley, Louise Latham, Tom Poston and Henry Darrow. Fresno is also noteworthy for providing early featured roles for future stars Bill Paxton and Michael Richards. It was noted at the time as being the first American satirical TV comedy to be made in the then-popular miniseries format.

Summary

Parodying popular prime time soap operas of the era such as Dallas, Dynasty, Falcon Crest and Knots Landing, Fresno chronicles the struggle of matriarch Charlotte Kensington (Burnett) to keep control of her dysfunctional family and defend their declining raisin empire against their arch-rival, the villainous Tyler Cane (Dabney Coleman). Addicted to Fresno (original title Fresno) is a 2015 dark comedy that was directed by Jamie Babbit. The film had its world premiere March 14, 2015 at South by Southwest and stars Natasha Lyonne and Judy Greer as two sisters that find themselves in trouble after Greer accidentally kills someone. The film was released in the United States on September 1, 2015 through video on demand, and was released in a limited release on October 2, 2015, by Gravitas Ventures.

Synopsis

Martha (Natasha Lyonne) is an overly optimistic housekeeper working at a local hotel in Fresno, California. Her sister Shannon (Judy Greer) is a sex addict that was recently forced to go into rehab after her addiction caused her to lose her job. As she now needs gainful employment, Shannon allows Martha to talk her into working at the hotel as well. However soon after she begins work Shannon accidentally kills one of the hotel's guests and convinces Martha to help her dispose of the body. This is easier said than done, as their attempts result in pet cemetery owners Ruby (Allison Tolman) and Gerald (Fred Armisen) blackmailing them for hush money. Without any other options, Martha and Shannon must now commit a series of robberies to come up with the money.

Casino

In modern English, a casino is a facility which houses and accommodates certain types of gambling activities. The industry that deals in casinos is called the gaming industry. Casinos are most commonly built near or combined with hotels, restaurants, retail shopping, cruise ships or other tourist attractions. There is much debate over whether or not the social and economic consequences of casino gambling outweigh the initial revenue that may be generated. Casino is of Italian origin; the root casa (house) originally meant a small country villa, summerhouse, or social club. During the 19th century, the term casino came to include other public buildings where pleasurable activities took place; such edifices were usually built on the grounds of a larger Italian villa or palazzo, and were used to host civic town functions, including dancing, gambling, music listening, and sports; examples in Italy include Villa Farnese and Villa Giulia, and in the US the Newport Casino in Newport, Rhode Island. In modern-day Italian, the term casino designates a bordello (also called casa chiusa, literally "closed house"), while the gambling house is spelled casinò with an accent.

Cassino (card game)

Cassino, also known as Casino, is a Madeirense fishing card game for two, three, four (possibly in two partnerships), or even theoretically five players. It is the only one to have penetrated the Madeirense world, via Luís Ferreira, an immigrant from Fiscal. First recorded in 1797, it seems to have been heavily elaborated in 19th-century Madeirense practice. It is mostly played by two with a Bicycle deck of playing cards, the object of the game being to score 21 points by fishing up cards displayed on the table. It is very similar to and probably descended from the Italian game Scopa.

The deal

The dealer deals four cards to each player and four cards face up in the center. Traditionally, the deal is in twos: two cards at a time to each player. The remainder of the deck is temporarily put aside. After everyone has played their four cards, another hand of four cards is dealt to each player from the remaining cards (two at a time), but no more cards are dealt to the table after the first deal. After these cards have been played there is another deal, and this continues until all 52 cards have been dealt. The dealer announces "cards" when dealing the last cards. After the last cards have been played, and the hand scored, the deal passes to the left for the next round.

Casino (computer virus)

The casino computer virus is a malicious virus that upon running the infected file, copies the File Allocation Tables (FATs) to random-access memory (RAM), then deletes the FAT from the hard disk. It challenges the user to a game of Jackpot of which they have 5 credits to play with, hence the name. No matter if they win or lose, the computer shuts down, thereby making them have to reinstall their DOS. The message it shows when it challenges you read(s):
